Morones, Heartwood, Jesus and elephant dreams
MIKE MORONE .. that's most definitely muh-ROAN by the way .. invited me to go with him to watch his 13-year-old son Charlie's basketball team play in Geneva (about an hour's drive south of here). It was fun; the boys were ahead by 6 or 8 points for most of the first half, and in the end managed to grab back the lead which they'd been briefly deprived of to win by a single point. I really enjoyed sitting on wooden stands in a high-school gym, eating from a bag of popcorn and sitting next to such a great friend, while he kept score for his son's team. It's so true, what's so often been said about simple pleasures being the best.
I spoke last Wednesday evening for the second time with a graduate of the Heartwood Massage Institute, and, if you can believe this, i am even more excited about going there. Collin sounds like a really nice guy; he also did the work/study program for which i am applying, and was unrelentingly positive about his experience, the place itself, the courses, the faculty. Although he did say that only four finished of the nine others who started with him. Can you believe that i neglected to ask him why the others didn't finish? i guess i'm so convinced of the rightness of my presence there that it simply doesn't occur to me. And some of what i've previously been told about why some might not succeed there -- for example, the remoteness of the place -- i know will not apply to me.
Collin did say however that Heartwood did not allow pets, and i am now looking into what options there are for me and Sandy. It is most definitely not a case of either/or, rather of learning what i must do to continue having this old girl at my feet when i go to sleep at night. He did say that a girl had come out last year with her dog, and that she had paid $200/month extra to have their own living space off-campus. But i need to find out more, like did that mean she had to have a car, and how much living there complicated her on-campus responsibilitites, etc. i'll keep you posted.
Been meaning to ask ...
Do you know anyone who might be driving from the east coast to the west around the end of April? i need to be in the heart of the redwood forests (about 4 hours north of San Francisco) in time for the start of the Heartwood program on May 6. Crystal, i'll be in touch!
Still no full-time work, although part-time work at Napier & Napier continues, as does my teaching of MS Word to Linda, a friend of my sister-in-law. There's enough money to cover the basics of rent and groceries, but still no savings. i am relaxed, while continuing to practice relaxation. All that is meant to be will be provided in due time.
Jacqui and I hosted a fab brunch at our place yesterday for my brother Scott and Kathy, and 2 of her kids Arthur and Jean. Mimoas, Monte Cristo sandwiches, fruit cocktails, tossed salads, sausages, blintzes and home-made oatmeal-cinnamon-raisin bread were all on the menu. We did most of the shopping Friday night, most of the food-prep and baking on Saturday, and we were good to go by 11:30, which is when the lucky guests were due to show up. I printed up a menu in advance, and noticed that it was the first time in a long time that i thought it appropriate to use the font Monotype Corsiva for anything! It was good to finally have Scott over .. first time he'd seen the place .. and he entertained us after brunch with a couple of readings from a book of Rochester ghost stories.
i'm here at the library, and wanted to share with you a section from a book about the famous pyschic Edgar Cayce concerning a dream he had which involved Jesus showing up and buying a bottle of champage for him, the Duke of Edinburgh and Wallis Simpson (this was about 1938), but when i went back to where i'd lain it down i discovered, unfortunately, that someone had come along and picked it up. Like many of his psychic predictions, there were elements of the dream that came true not long after, but i wanted to recount the dream because it was so amusing, and touching at the same time. i'll try to find it again some time, and reprint it here.
Many thanks to Janet's sister Anne who brought up to Rochester not long ago the dream journal that i'd left in Janet's apartment. Today was the first day in about 4 or 5 days that i didn't record a dream i'd had the night before.
A dream that i had 2 nights ago began with me leading two elephants through a forest, the larger one leading the smaller one with a leash. i took the leash and the older one, relieved of its responsibility to look after the younger, took off in search of water: it was hot and dry and we'd been walking some time. i gestured that we would slowly continue, and wait somewhere ahead. Uh, sorry, that's it!
Lance thanks for emailing photos of the Hawai'i trip! My one objection: too many photos of waves and sunsets and not enough photos of you and Nori! Great to see Carl and Marge looking so great .. i'll drop a postcard in the mail to them tonight.
Eileen, we'll talk on the phone soon, but just wanted to say THANK YOU for the care package you sent which arrived Saturday! The message behind your including twenty 37-cent stamps, a small stack of stationery, envelopes AND a pad of paper has been received loud and clear, and this electronic shout-out is not intended to replace a snail-mail missive that i will put in the mail to you shortly. Btw, would you please send more of those Snickers bars?
OK, it's 8 pm here at the library .. open late Mondays and Thursdays .. and i should really get back to give my pooch some air-time. The (phone) interview for acceptance to the Heartwood Massage Institute is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6 pm Eastern time (11 pm Amsterdam time). i humbly solicit your prayer and positive thoughts. Now get busy!

Well i for one was not suprised by the 'sexual prowess' aspect of your dream world Rachel -- and i hasten to clarify for The Readership that here i speak from a strictly conjectural point of view. You GO girl!
But "it was decreed" (damn! that pesky passive voice) you would become a hooker. Pray tell who issues such a proclamation, and whether he has any vested interest in this sordid proposition, and perhaps a purple Cadillac parked and purring proximately.
In any event "happy in my current job" makes it appear you've ruled out moonlighting.
